What stands out

PoFolks is pretty straightforward. We walked into a room that feels like an old Shoney’s or something similar. Pretty outdated. Service was decent. The bigger point was the price and the fried chicken.

We got the pot roast and the fried chicken. The fried chicken was really good, and this is the kind of place where that means more because they will give you plenty of it without charging much. You can get a ton for cheap. That was the clear strength of the meal.

Where the menu helps

The menu still leans hard into that same selling point. A four piece Blue Ribbon Fried Chicken is $14.99. There is also a Grandma’s Fried Chicken lunch special at $10.99 and up for two pieces, with two homestyle veggies and a choice of breadsticks, cornbread, hushpuppies, or a biscuit. Lunch specials run Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If low cost fried chicken is the reason for going, that time window matters.

The tradeoff

The tradeoff is the room. If the inside matters a lot, this one is going to feel tired. The old Shoney’s comparison kept coming back to us. Some people will find that comforting. Some people will just see an overdue refresh. Either reaction makes sense.

PoFolks is not for somebody looking for a restaurant with personality.If you want really good fried chicken, a LOT of it, and a bill that won't break the bank, you'll like this place.
