Skyway Jack's Restaurant

First impression

Skyway Jack’s did not get off to a good start with us. The room felt kind of dirty inside, and not in the old-diner way where the place is worn down but still feels looked after. Worse than that. Some people will forgive a rough room if the food makes up for it. This did not get there for us.

This is supposed the kind of restaurant people go to for simple comfort. Breakfast, Southern stuff, diner basics, the old local place that is supposed to make up for its rough edges with food and routine. The place has a reputation as an old-school breakfast spot with regulars, big portions, and friendly service. We are not arguing with what happened at their table. We are saying our visit never got past the feeling that the place needed more attention.

What we ate

We had the biscuits and gravy. They were okay. That is about as far as it goes. Not bad enough to complain about, not good enough to turn the visit around, and definitely not something that made the condition of the place easier to ignore. If the food had been great, maybe the calculation changes a little.

Skyway Jack’s is not reservable, so this is more of a drop-in breakfast place than a planned-out meal.

That setup fits the basic diner role this place seems to fill for a lot of people. The broader pattern around Skyway Jack’s is regulars and a casual old local atmosphere. All in all, the place felt dirty, and the biscuits and gravy were only okay.
